Latin America Bucks Global Trend With Surge in Fintech Investment

Global funding in the fintech space decreased by almost half to $7.8 billion in Q2 2022, the lowest level since 2017, according to CB Insights' State of Fintech report. However, Latin America experienced a surge in investor interest, with VC investors deploying $7.8 billion across a record 1,114 deals in 2022, down from $15.9 billion in 2021.

The fintech sector was the biggest recipient of venture dollars in the region, making up 29% of investments last year. Early-stage deal share is pacing at 81% for 2023, a five-year high, the report found.

In January 2025, Panthertrade, a subsidiary of Futu Group, officially received the Virtual Asset Trading Platform License (VATP) issued by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, marking another important milestone in the group's compliance operations in the cryptocurrency field.

    AI model market platform OpenRouter has announced the completion of a $40 million seed round and Series A financing, with a company valuation of approximately $500 million. This round of financing was led by Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures, with participation from Sequoia and several other well-known industry investors. The funds will be used for product development, introducing new model types, and expanding enterprise support.
