ENS founder slams Unstoppable Domains for not innovating and seizing ENS patents

  • Wechat scan to share

Nick Johnson, the founder of Ethereum Name Service (ENS), criticized Unstoppable Domains on social media. Johnson not only criticized Unstoppable Domains for lacking legal support or the binding force behind its Web3 Domain Alliance organization, but also accused Unstoppable of applying for a patent for an innovation of ENS.

Johnson said the problem can be traced back to January of this year when Unstoppable obtained a patent called "Resolving Blockchain Domains," which is based on the innovation developed by ENS and does not include its own novel innovation. No organization can rely on such non-binding commitments when it comes to core aspects of its business operations. Therefore, we demand that Unstoppable Domains add legal support behind its public relations commitments and make an irrevocable patent commitment unconditionally. If there are still differences between the two sides on this issue, ENS is ready to challenge this patent at any time.

Johnson also attached screenshots of the communication between Unstoppable and ENS.

FTX Historian also added that for affected creditors, such as users who have completed KYC in China but now reside in other jurisdictions like Singapore, this may be a path to claim, although it may require further information updates and more time costs.

  • Yu Weiwen: A summary of the “Licensing System for Stablecoin Issuers” will be released next week

Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, once again discussed stablecoins. He mentioned that after the "Stablecoin Regulation" is passed, we will immediately implement the regulation and seek market opinions on the two guidelines for regulation and anti-money laundering. Currently, we are adjusting the requirements of the guidelines based on feedback, aiming to announce them by the end of July. We expect that the final version will not have major adjustments compared to the consultation draft, and given the common international regulatory concerns, more rigorous requirements will be set in terms of anti-money laundering to minimize the risk of stablecoins being used for money laundering, ensuring the orderly and healthy development of the stablecoin market in Hong Kong. We have also noticed many rumors in the market recently regarding the application process. We will publish a summary explanation of the "Stablecoin Issuer Licensing System" next week, which will outline the arrangements for the Monetary Authority to accept and process license applications.
